Join Utah-based artist Mike Petree for an introductory block printing workshop focused on relief printmaking fundamentals. Students will learn carving techniques, design and concept reduction strategies, and both hand-printing and press-printing methods. 

• All materials provided. Students leave with a hand-carved printing block, their own signature chop, and 10 original prints. 

• Participants are welcome to bring their own tee or hanky to print as well.

This workshop guides participants through the full printmaking process, from developing an idea to carving, inking, and pulling finished prints. Designed for beginners, the class emphasizes solid technique, experimentation, and building confidence through hands-on practice. No prior printmaking experience required!

Mike Petree is a multi-genre artist who’s been happily carving, inking, and printing since the mid-1990s. His work lives in the world of relief printmaking, strong, intentional design paired with the satisfying act of cutting ideas down to their essential form.  His studio practice reflects decades of hands-on experience with both press and hand-printing methods, shaped by a love of slow, tactile making. When he’s not printing, Mike can usually be found teaching African drumming, hiking Utah’s rugged terrain, silversmithing, carving wood, painting, or cracking a well-timed joke.
